Blended from the best lots of the 1928 estate vineyards, this iconic small-batch blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot is powerful yet smooth.
The aromas of dark cherries, plums and roasted cocoa come leaping out of the glass. This is a big but very suave wine with layers of ripe cherry, berry fruits, white pepper, mint, chocolate, caramel, smoke, and toast. There are loads of ripe, soft tannins, so this wine will certainly age beautifully for a decade or longer, but the temptation to drink it right away may be too much to resist.
Try with smoked meats and charcuterie.
A lovely, juicy red with red tile, plums and spice. Some walnuts, too. So floral. Medium to full body. Extremely polished and beautiful in the mouth. Drink or hold.James Suckling April 2020
This feels younger and very fruit driven, juicier and with a softer texture, with volume and lush tannins. There is a balsamic hint here, powerful aromatics and a forward personality in this vintage, while keeping the composure and classical Mendel style, just a little more concentrated and ripe, but without excess.Wine Advocate October 2019
A blend of Malbec with 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot from Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley, this wine spent 16 months in French barrels. Deep purple in color. On the nose, ripe blackberry and plum notes make way for herbs. Oaky flavors come next, along with a volatile flourish that enhances the tone. Good body, moderate freshness and a juicy, compressed feel. Well balanced, leading to a long, fruity finish with a dusty texture. A Bordeaux blend in its Sunday best.Vinous October 2020
